Yoga is a great stress reliever on many levels intergrating body and mind. The yoga asanas work tension out of the muscles and helps to restore proper alignment. Breathing techniques known as pranayama aids in calming down the nervous system and allows to you be more focused and to be in the present moment. Meditation restores a sense of calmness and balance and gives you a well deserved break at the end of a busy day!

 

Wanting to lose weight?

 

Can yoga really help with weight loss? Yes, but not in the conventional sense. To be honest, there are other exercises which will give you a greater calorie burn, however yoga can help with weight loss from other angles as opposed to just the calories in and calories out approach.

The stress factor: Yup, it's that one again! But dealing with long term stress can keep you overweight due to high cortisol levels, regardless of how much you diet or how much cardio activity you engage in.

Increase muscle: To keep it simple, when you have more muscle your bodys metabolism increases. This is one of the main focus points of YogaCise, and you should start to feel stronger, fitter and more toned with regular practice.

Body Awareness: Through yoga you will become more in tune with your body and you will probably start to avoid foods which zap your energy levels or make you feel bloated, which leads us on to...

Mindfulness: Practise mindfulness during your meals. eat slowly, savour the flavours, watch portion sizes and eat until you are satisfied, not full. 

 

​What is YogaCise?
 

YogaCise is a power yoga class where the emphasis of the poses are to develop a strong and fit body while still gaining the benefits of traditional yoga such as increased flexiblity and stress relief through meditation.

The classes are designed to give you as many benefits to your health and wellbeing as possible. We incorporate vinyasas which are poses which flow together, and when done with a bit of speed we have what is essentially 'cardio yoga' giving us more of a calorie burn. Each class also has a section where we use the yoga poses for firming up and is also mixed with some conventional fitness exercises (don't worry, there's no boot camp here)! To derive the stress relief benefits of yoga we also spend time slowing down the movements, contolling our breath and meditating.

In short, YogaCise can help you feel less stressed, develop a greater connection between your mind and body (the word yoga actually means to 'unite' or 'union'), improve your health, flexibility, and to get in better shape at the same time! How many health systems can boast all that!?
